It’s possible that Mrs. Sparhawk took grades on the D.O.L. (grammar assignment) today. Please ask her if she did. If so, you need to go to a box in the make-up work center that says “Extra D.O.L.” and get a worksheet from this box. You can take this home and do it as homework, but don’t forget to turn it in when you return to school.

We were given a new spelling/vocabulary list this week, and we need to be bringing these home to study. Extra copies of the spelling/vocabulary list are either in the Monday box or the Tuesday box, in the make-up work center. Our next spelling/vocabulary list will be over Poetry Vocabulary List 4G. (Click the link to see the full list.) Our spelling/vocabulary test is scheduled for November 3, 2011.

Students will be bringing home a poetry-writing assignment tonight. Their final poem must be turned in on Wednesday, November 2. They’ll need to turn in all of the following:

  • The “Getting Ready to Write” rhyme table and webs
  • The first draft of their poem (written on notebook paper)
  • Their first draft must have at least five proofreading symbols  to show that it has been edited
  • A final draft written in ink (or typed) on the back of a graphic image (provided by the teacher)

Poems should be written on a fall, harvest, or Thanksgiving theme. They need to rhyme, use at least one onomatopoeia, and follow the basic rules of traditional poetry (i.e. capitalize the first word of each line, etcetera). And remember, this poetry writing assignment will be due on Wednesday, November 2! It’s coming soon!

 Thanks for checking in with!
