WorldBook Encyclopedia vs. Wikipedia Graphic Organizer & Lessons

Normally we do a word card, read a few chapters from Treasure Island, and then do a journal entry, but today’s schedule will be very different. Students have taken the Treasure Island final exam, and now we’re doing encyclopedia research both online, and using World Book Encyclopedias from the library.

If you’ve been absent, please ask Mrs. Sparhawk what research topic she assigned you. Then go to Boxes 1 and 2 in the make-up work center, where you’ll find two handouts that will guide you through the research we’ve been doing. Tuesday this week is our day to do research in the computer lab, using Wikipedia, but if you need to make that up, it’s possible to do the same research using Mrs. Sparhawk’s four student computers, in her classroom. Just let her know what you’re doing and make sure it works okay with her plans for the rest of your classmates.

Students will present their research results on Thursday and Friday, January 19 and 20. Try to be ready by that deadline. Mrs. Sparhawk is available at lunch and sometimes after school, to help you out, if you need more time to catch up on your research project. Since Friday is the last day of the quarter, your whole class will be moving next door to Mrs. Oldman’s classroom at the start of 3rd quarter, on Monday, January 23rd.
