Today’s word card was magistrate. On your Vocabulary Word Cards worksheet, you’ll need to fill out the syllable breaks, definition, part of speech(i.e. noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and sentence portion of your word card for this, but you are welcome to copy today’s drawing from one of your classmates’ word card worksheets.

Mrs. Sparhawk had everyone make a reading folder today (or yesterday–depending on how much time we had). The handouts we put in our reading folders are found in the make-up work center, in boxes 1 and 3. You’ll need one of each of these, plus a manila folder to keep these papers in. You’ll have to ask Mrs. Sparhawk for a manila folder.

We started reading Treasure Island today. Before we began, we did a journal entry on the following writing prompt: Judging only by the picture on the cover of the book, predict what you think this book, Treasure Island, will be about. Journal entries need to include the writing prompt (i.e. the question) as well as your answer. You need to enter today’s writing prompt on the worksheet entitled, “Reading Log,” which is found in Box 1, in the make-up work center, at the back of the classroom. Try to fill all the lines provided, with your response.
