Have you been absent? Here’s what you missed and how you can make up missing work:

Monday, Sept. 9, 2013

Today we did a D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language) assignment at the start of class. You only have to make these up if the teacher graded and recorded today’s D.O.L., so be sure and ask your teacher, “Did you take grades on the D.O.L. when I was absent?” If so, please ask her for an extra copy of the D.O.L. assignment that you missed. You’ll need to take it home and finish proofreading the sentence(s) that we did today. Don’t forget to put it in the teacher’s hand when you’re done (not on her desk)!

We were also given a vocabulary/spelling list today. Extra copies are in the Monday box in the makeup work center, or you can download it right here. This vocabulary list prepares students for new vocabulary words in math, science, social studies, and language arts. It also includes a few vocabulary words preparing students for our Patriot Day essay: the “Patriot’s Pen” essay for the VFW. The spelling test over these vocabulary words will be given on Friday, Sept. 20. The spelling words and their definitions can be found right here on Clipboards, on the Vocabulary Lists page.

We also took the time to log into iPads, just to make sure our passwords work. If you were absent when we did this, try to find a computer at the school and practice logging on. If you need your password re-set, please let your teacher know.

Today we copied down vocabulary definitions. Extra copies of this handout are in the Monday box in the makeup work center, or you can download it right here. The spelling test over these vocabulary words will be given on Friday, Sept. 20. The spelling words and their definitions can be found right here on Clipboards, on the Vocabulary Lists page. It’s not a bad idea to start studying early!

If you’ve been absent a lot this week and you find you’re falling behind on the “Patriot’s Pen” essay assignment, please set an appointment to come in at lunch or after school to work on yours. Hopefully we’ll all be done with our first drafts by Friday.

Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013

Today we met in the computer lab to take our language arts pre-test online. You may either take this test online at Study Island, or you may set an official appointment (where your teacher writes it in her agenda) to come in at lunch and make it up as a written test.

If you wish to take the test online, go to StudyIsland.com and log in. Your username will be lastname.firstname@buhlschools.org and your password will be your library number (or possible your last name capitalized with your library number after it).

Today our “Patriot’s Pen” essays were finished in class. If yours isn’t finished, please set an official appointment to come in at lunch or after school to catch up. The essay, itself, should explain what the word “patriotism” means to you. This is not only an assignment for school, but these essays will be submitted to the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) as entries in a contest. Please do not take your essay home, because if you get help on this essay from parents or other family members, it disqualifies you from the contest.
