Monday, September 23

It’s possible that your teacher took grades on the D.O.L. today. Please ask her if she did. If so, you need to get a D.O.L. make-up sheet from your teacher.

We were given a new vocabulary list today.  Extra copies of this vocabulary list are found in the Monday box.  As always, the definitions are found under “Vocabulary Lists” in the top menu. The spelling test over this list will be given on Friday, October 4. Don’t wait until the last minute to start studying!

Today we copied our assignments into our agendas for the week. You need to do this too.

We also continued editing our “Patriot’s Pen” essays today, looking for “word choice” errors. If you were absent for this, set an official appointment to come in at lunch to make up your editing time please. Your teacher will set up a Powerpoint so you can edit your own paper for “word choice” problems. By the time we’re done editing our papers, you must have at least ten proofreading symbols on the first draft.

Today we had a guest teacher, who had us write a letter to our parents using “Friendly Letter Format“. The letter must match the handout found on this page under the heading, “Letter to Parent w Run-on Sentences“.  You can also find this letter-writing assignment in the Wednesday box in the makeup work center. Our revised letters will be collected and scored on Thursday, September 26, so be sure and turn yours in if you’re also gone on Thursday.

Thursday, September 26

Today your teacher collected everyone’s Letter to Parent (the one with all the run-on sentences). If you don’t have this assignment, please visit this page or get one from the Wednesday box in the make-up work center.

Today we did more peer editing. It’s important that your first draft be thoroughly edited before we begin revising. That means you need to have at least ten proofreading symbols on your essay’s first draft. If you do not have at least ten proofreading symbols on your first draft by this Friday, please set an official appointment to come in at lunch or after school to have your teacher edit your essay for you.
