There was no school today.

Tuesday, Jan. 22

There was no D.O.L. today, due to MAP testing.

Today we copied our assignments into our agendas. If you were gone today, please take the time to copy this week’s assignments into your agenda as well.

We were also given a new vocabulary list, which can be found in the “Vocabulary” section of this website. Extra copies are in the Tuesday box. Please copy your definitions from this website.

Everyone was given a research paper topic today. The assigned topics are posted on the bulletin board near the door.

Wednesday, Jan. 23

It’s possible that your teacher took grades on the D.O.L. today. Please ask her if she did. If so, you need to get a D.O.L. make-up sheet from your teacher.

We were given a new vocabulary list this week. Extra copies are in the Tuesday box, and as usual, the definitions are found under the “Vocabulary” section, here on this website.

Today we went to the library to learn how to use the Dewey Decimal system to help us find research materials in text book form. If you have difficulty finding a book on your research topic, consider finding a book on a similar topic; then look through the index of that book to see if they cover your assigned topic.

For example, if your research topic is King Henry VIII, look under topics like English history, castles, monarchy, etc.  In a book on English history, look for the name “Henry” in the index.

If your topic is hot air balloons, look for a book on transportation. Then turn to the index and see if you can find “hot air balloon” in the index (which is in alphabetical order).

An index offers page numbers where you can find the specific topic you’re looking for, like King Henry VIII or hot air balloons.

We spent time today researching our assigned topics in World Book Encyclopedias. Please set an appointment to come in next week some time to make up this important research time (or do your research, on your own, at the library).
