  • What aspects of the Native American lifestyle portrayed in this movie are reflected in the literature we read this trimester? For example, in what way are animals important in their culture?
  • Pay attention to how Native Americans speak to one another when in groups. How do their verbal interactions remind you of lessons you learned while reading Native American literature?

Wednesday, Feb. 18: Copy the following questions in your journal, and be prepared to answer them as you view our film today:

  • When you view Red Badge of Courage, think of five things the Lieutenant in that movie has in common with Lieutenant John Dunbar.
  • Which film, Red Badge of Courage or Dances With Wolves, offers a more realistic depiction of early American life? Explain your answer please.

Thursday, Feb. 19: Copy the following questions in your journal, and be prepared to answer them as you view our film today:

  • Now that you’ve read about Audie Murphy’s life, would he be able to portray a credible Henry Fleming? Why or why not?
  • While watching the film, Red Badge of Courage, please list any errors (discrepancies) in the film version. In other words, what’s portrayed incorrectly or missing from the film version?

Please read the article on Audie Murphy’s life (you’ll find it quite interesting and amazing!), then view this clip from the movie before trying to answer the two journal questions we’ve been given above. Turn in your journal responses please.
